Biography

I am a molecular and cellular scientist interested in using the host-parasite metabolic relationship to study how complex life evolved. I graduated with a MSc in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Porto University in Portugal and I was awarded one of twelve fully funded PhD positions at the Cologne Graduate School of Ageing in Germany to pursue my PhD. The expertise I developed during my PhD has enabled me to explore a novel metabolic response of mitochondria physiology upon infection with the human parasite Toxoplasma gondii as a Postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute Biology of Aging. During my scientific career, I was selected to present my work at several international conferences and was awarded one of only twenty places in the "Sign Up! For your Career" Program of the MPG, an initiative to support women with leadership potential in their career planning. I am also enthusiastic about running, podcasts, and music (special in vinyl).
