Biography

I hold an M.Sc. in Bioengineering from the University of Algarve, Portugal, and a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Szeged, Hungary. During my doctoral studies, I delved into the intricate world of brain endothelial surface charge and glycocalyx, investigating their pivotal roles in maintaining the blood-brain barrier's function and integrity using organ-on-a-chip technology. At the Wyss, I currently lead the target discovery team within the Brain Targeting Program. Our mission is to identify novel brain transport targets that could revolutionize drug delivery to the brain. Leveraging the power of transcriptomic and proteomics data along with advanced bioinformatics, we identify and rank proteins that are unique to the brain's endothelial cells and have unique expression in other brain cells affected during disease. Ultimately, we aspire to employ these newfound transport proteins to enhance the delivery of brain-targeted therapeutics, contributing to innovative treatments for various brain diseases. Beyond my research, I'm deeply passionate about science communication. I find immense joy in inspiring and mentoring students and nurturing their dreams and aspirations. In my spare time, I'm an active traveler who loves to explore new cultures, expand my horizons, and appreciate the diversity our world has to offer.
